We are a two-year-old startup in the wearables space. About a year ago we released an MVP and hired a few part-time sales people with experience selling wearable devices. Unfortunately they weren’t really able to get the ball rolling for us, and our sales only picked up by a few percentage points. Now we want to hire a sales consultant to give us a sales roadmap for the next 5-10 years, helping us make strategic hires, setting sales expectations, and providing strategies to get us into online and brick-and-mortar marketplaces.
Because we’re asking this sales consultant position to handle a lot of responsibilities, we’ve received some very high salary expectations, many of which are out of our budget. How much should we expect to pay a quality startup sales consultant?
Easy, give him a percentage of the company as well. Then he will know that if he does well and the company grows, his value will grow with it.
